Older rock ‘n’ roll travelers can celebrate what would have been the 75th birthday of the King himself aboard the Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas ship when it departs Tampa Jan 4, 2010 for fun, karaoke, live music by Ronnie McDowell and his band and other events before returning to the Florida port Jan. 10. To celebrate the diamond jubilee of Presley’s birth (Jan. 8 1935 in Tupelo, Miss. but you knew that already, didn’t you?) Tribute Cruises is also planning a second 2010 Elvis Tribute cruise departing from Honolulu in August. The January Elvis cruise, which is not affiliated with Elvis Presley Enterprises, is scheduled to include the cast of "With Love, E" as well as Sonny West, an Elvis bodyguard, who will share his memories of the entertainer. Prices start at $739 for an inside cabin and includes all taxes, port charges, and entertainment 2010 Cruises for Blues Brothers, Neil Diamond, Stones OthersThe same company has announced theme cruises that pay homage to laid-back rocker Jimmy Buffett; to ageless heart throb Neil Diamond; as well as to the Rolling Stones, the Blues Brothers and the Beach Boys that will take place throughout 2010. Details are not available yet on some of the trips. The Blues Brothers trip would depart New Orleans in February and celebrate Mardi Gras, according to the company. It says the Neil Diamond cruise, starring the cast of Hot August Nights, would take place May 2-9, 2010 on the Celebrity Summit, embarking from Bayonne, N.J. and going along the eastern seaboard to New England and Bermuda. Jimmy Buffett Tribute CruisesThe first annual Jimmy Buffett “Christmas In The Caribbean” (where else?) Tribute Cruise aboard the Carnival Dream departs Port Canaveral near Orlando, Fla. On Dec. 19, 2009 and heads for the western Caribbean before returning Dec.19. Ports of call include Cozumel, Mexico and Belize. The company is planning two additional Buffett-themed cruises. The first, the Barefoot, sails out of Nassau in the Bahamas on the Tall Ship Liberty Clipper Jan. 18-24, 2010. Next comes the Parrothead Tahiti Cruise March 6 to March 12, 2010 on the Paul Gauguin (said by the promoters to be “the world's finest small cruise ship” out of the French Polynesian Islands of Tahiti. The Buffett theme cruises feature members of the Coral Reefers, Buffett’s band, plus Barrie Cunningham, a Buffett tribute artist, and other performers. Cunningham's BC Entertainment, based in Las Vegas, is the promoter. The company Tribute Cruises is in Florida. Another company headed by Woody Lifton of Boca Raton, Fla. has announced a March 2010 Beatles tribute cruise out of Fort Lauderdale, and there are several companies selling tickets to jazz and rhythm and blues cruises, although 2010 dates apparently are sold out.
